TCS ~ June's Brooklyn Blackout Cake

Another recipe from Tish Boyle's The Cake Book
check out her cupcake version
I baked mine as a tray bake instead of round cakes
and as we older folks tend to watch our sugar intake,
using the sheet cake, I made a 4"x4" square cake of four layer sandwich
cake filled and frosted with the chocolate pudding filling
and I sprinkled the top and sides with chocolate rice!
and have tiny servings!
and ate the rest of the cake plain!
my latest serving plate!
Below: I made meringue with the egg whites left over from the cake ingredients
and have been enjoying small servings of it topped
with my mango curd, fresh fruits and bits of the chocolate cake!

I like the square presentation. :) You did a nice job, but I had trouble controling myself when eating this cake. I found myself going back for seconds (sometimes thirds) whenever I did eat a slice...:P

Yes... Very interesting in the shape of a square... and looks taller too ;) Yummy! Wasn't it?

Neat idea making it square and smaller! I like your new serving dish as well. Great job!

I like the variation in using the square pan--it feels like it would make a great sheet cake. The frosting was delicious, wasn't it?

What a cute little cake and a perfect way to make it if someone doesn't have round cake pans.

I still have egg whites left and need to use them up!

Looks wonderful! Two weeks ago, there was a blackout at my place, and I thought of this cake, because I was reading the recipe the night before! What a coincidence!

Love how your cake looks so gooey! I also took advantage of the egg whites and used them to make the meringue cups I missed in May.
