Cookbook Countdown #18: Italian Shepherd's Pie (Torta Del Pastore)

This is a shepherd's pie with a twist, Gino uses sweet potatoes for the topping! Some milk, butter and parmesan went into the topping. The meat sauce was done in 50 minutes ~ it has chopped onions, carrots and button mushrooms, Gino said to use only FRESH basil leaves and not the dried stuff, a glass of dry red wine (an extra glass went into me!), and tinned tomatoes.
This portion was shared between DH and I this morning at breakfast!
Recipe on pages 96-97 from Legs & Feathers Section of:
Gino D'acampo's Fantastico!
and here is the first book of Gino's I already have on my shelf, and there is one more book in the post coming to me, hopefully, this week!

Well, this yummy Italian Shepherd's Pie definitely 'too heavy' as breakfast for me. But I would love it as dinner on a romantic night!
