Braised Lamb Shanks
from
Bill Granger's Holiday
I have been wanting to make Lamb Shanks for the
longest time and finally found an
easy recipe!
above: a bit messy!
Ingredients were:
*Lamb shanks, trimmed of excess fat -
washed and pat dry,
*1/4 cup plain flour seasoned with salt and pepper
for coating the shanks
(shake off the excess flour)
*2 tablespoon olive oil
*3 small onions, peeled and cut into thin wedges
*3 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly
*fresh ginger, minced or grated ~ 1 tablespoon
*small tin of tomatoe paste
and 3 medium tomatoe - chopped
(original was 1 can of chopped tomatoes)
*1 teaspoon 5 spice powder
*3 tablespoons soy sauce
*375ml water
heat a little of the oil in hot pan
sear the shanks - brown on all sides
remove from pan
add remaining oil
saute the onions for a couple of mins
add the garlic and ginger - saute for a couple of mins
add the tomatoes, 5 spice and soy sauce
then the water
return the shanks to the mixture
bring to boil and then simmer on low heat
for 1.5 hours
check the seasoning - add if necessary
I add carrots to the mixture in the last half hour
and the cauliflower in the last 15 mins
served with pasta
I found this at the last Big Bad Wolf Fireball sale!

ReplyDeleteLian, I omitted the 2 tablespoons brown sugar at the end of cooking cos we don't like it too sweet.
