The Cottage Cooking Club ~ February 2016 offerings

Much thanks and appreciation to
for organizing this cook-along-with-Hugh!
And if you are keen to join our group
check it out HERE!
and join up!
I did not get to the following:
From the chapter of Comfort Food & Feasts:
1. Squash and fennel lasagne (page 33)
From the chapter of Bready Things:
5. Apple and blue vinny toastie (page 204)
From the chapter of Store-Cupboard Suppers:
6. Rosemary and pecorino tart (page 216)
8. Lentils with beetroot and feta (page 237)
10. DIY "pot" noodles (page 248) OR Curried Mushroom pot (page 248)
***

From the chapter of Comfort Food & Feasts:
Mushroom ragout with soft polenta (page 57)

Love the mushroom ragu, excess polenta chilling in the fridge!

***

From the chapter of Store-Cupboard Suppers:

White bean salad with tomatoes and red onions (page 240)
***
From the chapter of Comfort Food & Feasts:
Swede (rutabaga) potato pasties (page 52)

Love the purple carrot!

below: left pastry was remnants of pastry trimmings stacked
on top of each other and roll out
so I finally sorta made puff pastry but the layers are not seen
could be - because I used bread flour?
but it was a great experience!
and I totally forgot to add the butter to bind the stuffing
and the cheese but these were still good
could be better with a teaspoon of curry powder!
And perhaps made these patties smaller!
***
From the chapter of Comfort Food & Feasts:
Sweet potato and peanut gratin (page 63)
Served up with simple green salad with rock melon
and bean curd fish rolls
***
Potatoes and 'deconstructed pesto' (page 222)
I used capers cos I had run out of olives (which I thought I bought!)
Hubby's dinner of pan seared salmon with a tahini/yogurt sauce I experimented with,
accompanied with toasted pita bread
***
A Big Thank You to
for organizing this cook-along-with-Hugh!
to see what my fellow members had made

Wow, you had a busy month, Emily! they all look so delicious! I agree that the pasties were absolutely huge. I don't know whose hands those are supposed to fit into! They sure were tasty, though. Sounds like it was also a great month for you in terms of good eating from this cookbook. :)

Enjoyed every recipes you made and posted and always learn from the substitutes you make with the products you have on hand. What will you be doing with your cold polenta. (There are about 50 different ways-to-serve-leftover-polenta on the Internet.) I didn't think the sweet potato/peanut recipe sounded very good but everyone has found it so delicious. My List of recipes to make in this book is getting longer than my List of recipes I have made! Nice post, Emily.

You always manage to make so many of the recipes each month and they all look fabulous. You have a photo of my favourite this month, the mushroom ragout, right at the top of your post. I have fond memories of that one. I like your idea of adding extra spices to the pasty filling, they definitely needed something, and your pastry may not have puffed but it looks like a good, flaky pie should. Can you believe there are only 20 recipes left?!

Hi Emily, not sure where you find the energy every month to prepare so many of the recipes, you are amazing.......the polenta and mushroom dish was my favorite. Can't beleive we only have 2 months left.

Wow! Emily...you cooked the whole book! Everything looks awesome. I liked that potato gratin...very flavorful. But the one thing I'm wishing I had made was the Mushroom Polenta dish. That looks so comforting! Thanks so much for inviting me into the group. I'm glad we are finally cooking together again! : )

I love your process photos from the pasties. I think your puff pastry turned out rather well, considering you used bread flour - they look light and tasty. You made some wonderful meals from this month's dishes!

You are always so ambitious, Emily. I'm impressed. All the ones I made are on the list of what you skipped, so it's fun to see what you liked and didn't like. Plus you always put your Malaysian twist on things which I enjoy seeing.

Hi Emily, great pics for the month. It appears the sweet potatoes and peanut butter gratin were a hit among many in the month and I look forward to preparing it. I love to see the variations among the group, including your Potatoes and deconstructed pesto which looks simple and delicious! Also a hit this month seems the mushroom ragu on the polenta, yours looks delicious too- nice you get to enjoy more of the polenta in any variation over the week. Great job! See you around!
